New Behavior Plan

Starting next week, November 2-6, there will be a new behavior plan in the classroom.  I wasn’t 100% loving the one we’ve been using, so I am going back to a similar one I used last year.  The students will get more opportunities to earn Vahle $’s throughout the day, and buy everyday.  I like this system better because it’s all about pointing out all the positive things the students do all day.  Plus, they can actually see their reward, a Vahle $.

There are still levels to this system, so the students will put a color dot in their notebook at the end of the day like always.

$1-$5: Yellow
$6-$10: Green
$7-$15: Blue
$16-$20: Purple

Each level has a reward, so at the end of the day when students buy, there is something at each level.  The higher the level (blue/purple) better the reward, so students will want to work really hard to get up to the higher levels for the better rewards.

I think the students will really like and do well with this new behavior plan.

Please contact me if you have any questions about this new plan.  I’m super excited about it! :)

Brookfield Zoo

Today (10/20/15) was such a beautiful day to visit the Brookfield Zoo.  The weather was perfect, behavior was excellent, and the animals were fun to see.  We weren't able to see all the animals, but I know we saw almost all of them.

Before our visit, we read a story in News-2-You about two snow leopard cubs at the zoo who were born in June.  We were fortunate enough to be able to see the two cubs (Mayla and Daania) and their mom (Sarani).

On our trip to the zoo last year, we were able to see the new baby gorilla.  This year, we were able to see that baby (more like a toddler) and a brand new baby gorilla who was born in September!  The kids were also very excited to see the large silverback gorilla, who they called Ivan.  Ivan is the silverback gorilla in a story we are reading called The One and Only Ivan.

Here are some highlights from our great day!

As you can see, a fun and exhausting day at the Brookfield Zoo!!

A busy week!

This was a very busy week at CCIS: fire safety, half day, PBS and fire safety assemblies, Parent Teacher Conferences, and Friday off!  Monday, the Coal City Fire Department came and gave the students a tour of the fire trucks.  The students were even allowed to climb up and sit in the truck.  Wednesday, the fire fighters came back and did a presentation for the kids.  Today we had the Angry Birds PBS assembly, which is always a big hit!  This morning we also did some cooking.  We made apple nachos!  The kids did a great job following directions while cooking and enjoyed eating them!  Here is the recipe for the apple nachos: Apple Nachos

After a busy week, it's nice to have a 4 day weekend!  Have a great weekend and I'll see the kids on Tuesday, October 13th!

Library Visit

Thursday, October 1 was our second trip to the Coal City Public Library.  Ms. Rene read a book about autumn and the kids made a fall leaf art project.  The kids job this visit was to check the markers to make sure they still work.  The kids were able to check out autumn books.  It was another wonderful trip!!
